Have you thought about what might happen to your pets if you are in an accident, or emergency crews need to enter your house and take you to the hospital? Having someone on board in advance can help provide peace of mind and reassurance that your animals will not be left alone to fend for themselves if you can’t get home in a timely fashion.
This was certainly an issue in my post, Filly’s Luck: Filly’s human mom was taken to the hospital, and Filly was home alone. There were no plans in place. Fortunately, a kind hearted neighbor who knew the situation took care of Filly. But this was really just luck and good fortune. If you can plan for your pets in advance, it can help prevent suffering later.
Consider having a couple emergency contacts, and perhaps carrying an emergency wallet card like this one:
A simple internet search for something like, “emergency wallet card” or “wallet card for pets” will find you lots of options like the above, cards you can carry with you to notify people that you have pets alone at home.
